Brush Options

Stencil brushes are wonderful. They work well on fabric and are a necessity for canvas stenciling, unless you are using spray paint. The key is to use a very small amount of paint and dab. Do not use brush strokes. The bristles are very stiff.

Paint brushes work well on fabric only. Sometimes they leave streaks, but they are easy to use and don’t bleed as much as sponges do. If you want to get rid of streaks, you can use a sponge roller over your painted area to even it out.

Sponge brushes, sponge on a stick. You can get these pretty much anywhere paint is sold, and for cheap. They tend to make paint bleed under the stencil. I only use them when using puff paint, because they create a nice texture.

Sponge rollers are quick and effective. It is easiest if you go over an already painted area, but you can use it as the primary brush if you want.
