Stenciling On Fabric

Print out your stencil on the paper of your choice. Next cut out your stencil. If you are stenciling on a light colored fabric, using a darker color paint, cut out the black parts. If you are stenciling on a dark colored fabric using a lighter color paint, cut out the white parts.

Adhere the stencil to the fabric. This might be with spray adhesive, tape, heat, or by other means.

Paint over the stencil in the color of your choice. If you need to do more than one layer, remember to wait for the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next layer.

Now you wait until the paint is dry. I suggest watching some tv while waiting, it helps the time go by faster.

When the paint is dry, take the stencil off.

Heat set your stencil. This means ironing it to keep the paint from fading and cracking in the wash. Your paint container will say how much time to heat it, if it is necessary. If you aren’t sure, just iron it for a couple minutes on each side with a fabric scrap or paper towel in between the stencil and the iron.

That’s it. You’re done! Put your stencil to good use, and take good care of it.
